Insulating Garage Roof
One of the best methods you can use if you want to regulate the temperature of your garage is to insulate the garage roof.
Insulating garage roof. To prepare determine the area of the space you plan to insulate and add 10 to 20 percent to account for mistakes and odd spaces you need to fill. You can insulate the walls ceiling and door of the garage to the highest r value possible but if you fail to fill those air gaps you ll still be wasting a lot of heat. However if you have a cathedral style garage roof you will need a scaffolding to get into the upper areas of the roof. So before insulating go around the garage with a can of low expanding spray foam and seal all gaps and cracks that let in the daylight.
In either case you will need to follow the general steps below to insulate your garage roof. Be sure to count the spaces above doors and windows. When a previously insulated room above the garage exists before the conversion then roof insulation will not be an issue and you will not have to add extra insulation to the garage ceiling. If you have a flat garage roof and an attic above you can install the garage insulation from below using a standard ladder.
Regulate your garage s temperature all year by installing insulation. The space created above the garage would also have to be fully insulated in a similar fashion to the garage. Adding insulation won t make your garage a perfect temperature by itself but it will take the edge off the freezing winters and the sweltering summers.
